For Cees Blankestijn<\/a>, who took over as managing director at DFW Europe<\/a> B.V. on 1 May 2025, these initial months were a period of discovery, building connections, and setting a clear course. His story demonstrates how technical expertise, commercial experience, and a hands-on approach can lay a solid foundation for growth, both personally and for the organisation.<\/strong><\/p>\n

A hands-on beginning<\/strong>
\nCees has a background in electrical engineering and industrial engineering & management. His career has taken him from commercial roles to running his own installation company, where he learned to make decisions independently and take full responsibility. \u201cIn my early thirties, I was travelling across Europe and South America as a regional sales manager. That\u2019s where I quickly learned to be self-reliant and trust my own judgement,\u201d he recalls.<\/p>\n

The blend of technical knowledge, commercial insight, and entrepreneurial flair has since become the heart of his leadership style. This combination proved a perfect match for DFW and its innovative, international ambitions, a feeling Cees experienced immediately during his first visit. He was struck by the company\u2019s distinctive approach, developing and producing energy-efficient, fully electric cremation ovens and related systems for both human and animal crematoria. \u201cThe mix of cutting-edge technology and international ambition makes this a place where you can genuinely make a difference\u201d, that unique focus gave him instant energy to get started.<\/p>\n

“What struck me immediately was the team\u2019s dedication and passion. It\u2019s incredibly motivating to be part of building something meaningful together<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

From observation to involvement<\/strong>
\nWhat drew Cees to DFW Europe was not just the technical ingenuity, but also the energy of the team and the company\u2019s international outlook. \u201cIt\u2019s an environment where, as the person ultimately responsible, you\u2019re right in the thick of things.\u201d That atmosphere of ambition and engagement resonated with him straight away, he listened to the team, explored the way processes worked, and sought to understand what makes DFW unique.<\/p>\n

Fostering ownership<\/strong>
\nDecisions within the organisation traditionally rested with management. Cees saw an opportunity to empower employees by giving them greater responsibility. A major project in Hong Kong offered a perfect example. He actively involved team members outside of management in the preparations and visited the site himself, gaining a firsthand understanding of the situation. The effect was immediate, the team began to truly believe in the project and were keen to get started. \u201cPeople genuinely started to believe in it and couldn\u2019t wait to get involved,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n

Process, people and growth<\/strong>
\nDuring his first months, Cees balanced attention to processes with a focus on the team. Improving service levels, streamlining internal workflows, and strengthening collaboration within the management team were key priorities. At the same time, he focused on external relationships and new opportunities. \u201cIt was an exciting period,\u201d he laughs. \u201cNot just because of the technical complexity of our products, but mostly because of the team\u2019s passion and commitment.\u201d<\/p>\n

Charting the course ahead<\/strong>
\nIn the coming year, Cees plans to roll out a clear strategic plan, expand capacity where needed, and keep innovation at the forefront. \u201cOur fully electric cremation ovens give us a unique position. The challenge is to remain distinctive without compromising on quality or service,\u201d he explains. With this focus, he aims to strengthen DFW\u2019s position and prepare the company for further international growth.<\/p>\n

Building sustainable growth together<\/strong>
\nThe first 100 days show that, for Cees, leadership is about listening, connecting, and taking decisive action. By actively involving the team, improving processes step by step, and celebrating small wins, he is laying a firm foundation for DFW\u2019s future. His approach demonstrates that consistent action combined with genuine engagement is key to sustainable international growth.<\/p>\n
